a) For what reason are the fields of a related table, when viewed in "related" tab, ordered alphabetically? Why not straight ordered like in the schema ?

b) How can we order the fields in the "related" tab ? In table view the table fields to be seen can be chosen and ordered in the "layers" tab, but cannot be ordered when viewed in the "related" tab? Why ?

Regarding (a), I imagine that the answer is, that the "related" tab shows a list of relations, not a list of fields.

The named relations belong to this table, not to the target table or tables. (Consider how it should work if there are several target tables.)

What is the problem as you see it? I mean why does it make your work difficult.

I would like to have the choice to view the fieldnames and field value in a specific order that suits me as a user, independently from being forced as a user to view them in alphabetical order. One can choose which fields to appear in a table and order them in a specific chosen way in the "layers" pane. But it is not possible to do so with tables or queries being "related" tables viewed in the "related" tab.

But then again the viewed field names and field values from tables or queries in the "related" tab are not shown in a "normal" table way but more like a "pivoted" table, with field names not as a column head but as row head. In the background I hear Dimitri then telling that you cannot trust rows in tables to be ordered ... but then again they seem , in a standard way, to appear in an alphabetical order, which is different from the field order as appearing in the original table schema.

So my initial question should have read: Is there a way to sort row order in the "related" tab view other than being forced to view the rows in alphabetical order, and keep this order for future use?

You still haven't said why.

What is the problem?

Viz., I want to be able to do X, but I can't, because Y.

You only say Y (not why!).

a) For what reason are the fields of a related table, when viewed in "related" tab, ordered alphabetically?

Just guessing here, but it seems to be darned near universal practice to use alphabetic ordering when presenting lists of stuff unfamiliar to the viewer.

For example, if some web page presents a list of countries with their two letter standard abbreviation it will probably do so in alphabetical order, and not in order of their population, geographic size, or other less well-known factors.

b) How can we order the fields in the "related" tab ?

If you want to order fields in a result, use a query. A quick convenience in a small pane is not a replacement for all possible things you might want to do with data. There are other, more general, facilities for that.

We can reorder fields in a table to make it easier to use. Great! It would be nice to do the same with the Values tab in the Info pane for the same reason. Yves61 desire to have that ability in the Related tab for the same reason again seems reasonable.

Using a table or a query to be used in a "related" tab is no use. Field names and field values from tables or queries used in the "related" tab are shown with field names not as a column head but as row head. So the normal order of fieldnames in a table or query are "pivoted" from column head to row head to be viewed in alphabetical order.

I need to set my own order and not mere alphabetical order set as a standard with no possibility to change it or set my own in "related" tab.

@Mike Pelletier. Thank you for supporting ! It would be nice to do the same with the Values tab in the Info pane for the same reason. Yves61 desire to have that ability in the Related tab for the same reason again seems reasonable.
