I am being moved from a W10 Pro desktop to a new W11 laptop. The W10 has my fifth install of Manifold 8 on it (originally purchased in 2007 and last installed 2021), and consequently I have no activation keys left (checked on status page). Before I go to the trouble of installing the latest version of Manifold 8 on the W11 PC (and having read the relevant help areas - where it is not 100% clear), am I safe to assume that upon installation and attempting activation my serial number will update to four new activation keys and consume one immediately?

The reason I am asking this rather than trying it, is that I will need IT assistance to even download the installer and want to be sure I am not wasting both of our time.

Thanks,

Peter.

Activation questions are free, follow the instructions on the Activations Help page, and write to tech. You will get the definitive answer.

<edit> I hadn't seen the growing activations help page. That's going to answer your question I suspect.

Thanks Dale. I had a further rummage through the various activation help pages and found this:

Are all activations used up?- If all five original activation keys have been used up and it is more than one year since the serial number was issued, then the activation system will automatically issue a new activation key if you attempt to activate the serial number.

Fingers crossed I am good to go.

What you quoted was the obsolete system for obsolete builds. No need to use that when you can do much better (No need to cross fingers either - see the information online). Here's how:

1. Read the growing activations page Dale suggested. Read it carefully, the whole thing.

2. You'll note the very helpful link there:

  • New Activation - Important information for users who are upgrading from older, deprecated builds to current builds.

Visit that and read it carefully. The direct link is https://manifold.net/tech/new_activation.shtml

That link explains everything in simple language. Use the latest build and not only do you get a fresh start with activations, they even grow back automatically. It's so much easier than the old way of doing it.
