Is there a way to replace the initial <NULL> by a userdefined default value in a new record?

For instance there may be a field with the date of creation or the version of the database at the time the record was added.

I'd expect such a definition in the scheme dialog. But as it is missing there has anybody a hack to achieve this? Perpaps the special form of constraint or using an expression DateTimeCurrentRef(<dependency>)

The field should be editable.
