Hi,

I just read this article in french : https://cartonumerique.blogspot.com/2023/03/Chine-guerre-des-cartes.html

explaining that now this type of map is used everywhere in china to present the world:

a vertical representation of the world, with the China on the middle, the artic ocean seen just as a small sea. Europa is far away from the center of the map and Africa much bigger.

South America is a small part of the world somewhere in the bottom of the map!

The map has been design by Hao Xiaoguang, you can read an article in english about this map here : https://www.tellerreport.com/life/2021-04-14-looking-at-the-world-horizontally-and-vertically--what-s-the-big-difference--%E2%80%94%E2%80%94interview-with-hao-xiaoguang--the-compiler-of-the-vertical-world-map.rJVIEj2E8d.html

high resolution of the map : http://www.hxgmap.com/imag3/1309dst.jpg

I would like to see tissot indicatrix circles of such a map to understand the deformation beneath it!

Is it possible to draw this map in Manifold?

Dimitri

No, the most frequently encountered map is the following. You can get close in 9 by using the Equal Earth projection using a center longitude of 150 degrees. I think Winkel Tripel would be even closer if you could set the center longitude for that.
