Mesh networks are networks of devices that can talk to each other wireless networks. They differ from normal wireless setups where all devices talk to each other through the base station. Mesh networks are going to be important for farming and that market is probably already covered. However there may be a need for a GIS to harvest information coming from a mesh network. I can imagine border security being one such application. Manifold with it SQL capabilities, virtual folders and abilities to work with various back end and also in application development could be the best GIS for working with mesh data. I would personally like to use mesh data for environmental monitoring and am currently taking baby steps in this direction.

Regular GIS is taking a hit as the cloud replaces traditional GIS products. I see the future of GIS is in managing the big spatial data.
